Preparations are well underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the impending opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the massive influx of guests that will be (or… should be, at least) entering the park come August 29th.
Just today, the newly expanded security checkpoint and revamped entrance area fully opened to guests, and in the coming days, the Tower of Terror will have completed its tricky months-long refurbishment. Even Mickey’s being put to work overtime, with a second performance of Fantasmic! scheduled for each night from August 29th through September 2nd.
Over on Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard, various stores are also wrapping up refurbishments and getting ready for their big debut.
Legends of Hollywood
Legends of Hollywood closed back in March for refurbishment after taking over the previous Planet Hollywood Super Store. Disney is quick at work on expanding the Legends of Hollywood shop into this entire block of stores on Sunset Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The expected end date for refurbishment is August 22nd, meaning the store should reopen on August 23rd, just days before the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Keystone Clothiers
Keystone Clothiers also closed back in March. The expected end date for refurbishment is August 28th, meaning the store should reopen on August 29th.
Mickey’s of Hollywood
Mickey’s of Hollywood, one of the oldest storefronts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, closed in May for refurbishment.
Mickey’s of Hollywood was regarded as the Emporium of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, taking up the entire first block of store facades to the left upon entering the park on Hollywood Boulevard.
We were so sad to lose this store to yet another refurbishment, we even made a video tour of the store just hours before it closed:
The expected end date for Mickey’s of Hollywood’s refurbishment is September 15th, meaning the store should reopen on September 16th, missing the Galaxy’s Edge opening by a few weeks.
All three stores are expected to look very different when they return. Whether they’ve received the “boring, beige, streamlined” treatment is still to be discovered.
