PHOTOS, VIDEO: Enhanced Big Thunder Trail Opens at Disneyland, The Portal to Star Wars Land

Our friends over at Fresh Baked Disney have provided us with some photos of the newly reopened Big Thunder Trail at Disneyland Park, the first part of the park which was closed for the construction of Star Wars Land to return into service:

What has been construction walls for the better part of a year and a half is now open again.

While this bridge was here before, it now has some new lanterns on it.

Work continues on the new edge of the Rivers of America, as well as the new train trestle for the Disneyland Railroad.

Thankfully, the old cave from Mine Train Thru Nature’s Wonderland survived.

The trail looks fairly different now, with extensive rock work and props taking the place of the entrance to Big Thunder Ranch.

The new elements are just as well themed as anything around it and look as if they have been here since the early days of Big Thunder Mountain.

These new structures will block the guest view of Star Wars Land from Frontierland.

The Big Thunder Ranch logo can be found on the lamp sitting on the rock in this picture, a nod to the past.

The opposite side of the path is still pretty much as it was before.

It is nice to have this pathway back and it should help alleviate some crowding issues.

This will be one of the entrances to Star Wars Land come 2019.

The Disneyland Railroad will be visible from here, which should be a nice touch to the Frontierland skyline.

The new rock formation is a little bit like Big Thunder, but should also blend nicely into the far away planet represented in Star Wars Land.

On a side note, the Mark Twain and the Columbia began test trips around the river today, preparing for their return to service later this summer.

  • That rock work takes a very long time and is well done. I’m glad this trail has finally re-opened and looks even better now. We met Bullseye along that trail during a Halloween Party a while back. I’ll be there July 3rd and it’s a great little walkway btwn Fantasyland and Frontierland, to help break up the crowds a bit.
