Cozy Cone Motel Sign Under Construction at Cars Land in Disney California Adventure

The Cozy Cone Motel, Sally’s roadside motel from “Cars,” is having some refurbishment work done to the entrance sign at Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. Let’s take a look.

Cars Land is famous for being a section of Disney California Adventure that is plucked right out of the Disney and Pixar film “Cars.” The land is true to form, with each of the roadside stops from the movie being represented. The Cozy Cone Motel, Sally’s roadside motel, allows guests to try different “i-cone-ic” sweet and savory treats from five walk-up windows shaped like orange traffic cones.

The sign at the entrance to the Cozy Cone has been surrounded with scaffolding and scrim as work to refurbish the sign has begun. While the sign doesn’t spin, as does the Walt Disney World counterpart at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, it does have neon lights that are part of the land’s nightly charm.

It is unclear how long the work will take, but for now, there is a temporary wooden fence and door for crew to enter the construction area.

Cars Land

Radiator Springs Racers Empty Cars Land Stock

Cars Land opened in 2012, the core of an over $1 billion expansion of Disney California Adventure after years of struggle with small size and an inadequate amount of qualitative rides. Before this space was Cars Land, most of it was a parking lot. A more general car-themed land called Carland was actually in development when Pixar’s “Cars” hit it big in 2006, and Disney decided to shift gears to the IP.

Radiator Springs Racers is a slot car dark ride similar to Test Track at EPCOT and Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea.

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters is a trackless ride using similar technology as Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea (but without water). It opened in 2016, replacing the short-lived Luigi’s Flying Tires, a bumper/hover-car ride that was plagued with issues.
