DuckTales: Remastered to be Removed From Digital Retailers This Week

DuckTales: boo-hoo! It seems that the beloved DuckTales: Remastered released back in 2013 will soon be removed from digital retailers.

On August 8, 2019 the game will disappear from digital stores on platforms like PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Nintendo eShop. Those that already have the game downloaded on their video game console will still be able to play the game, but consumers will no longer be able to purchase and download the title going forward.

DuckTales: Remastered was developed by WayForward and published by Capcom. While Capcom has not provided an explanation for the removal of the game, it is fairly likely that this occurrence has to do with a license agreement expiration. DuckTales has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years, so it’s not unlikely that Disney is charging a premium to renew the license to keep the game up on digital storefronts.

The game will be pulled later in the day on August 8 on Xbox 360 (and Xbox One via backwards compatibility), PS3, Wii U, and Steam. If you still haven’t downloaded the game yet, Capcom has reduced the price of the game by 75 percent as a farewell favor for fans.

While it is of course sad to see this game get lost to time, at least players can still experience the original NES version of DuckTales (as well as its sequel, DuckTales 2) on modern gaming hardware through The Disney Afternoon Collection.

Are you sad to learn about the loss of this game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Personally, I’m numb to the constant loss of Disney-related video games after the unforgivable blow that was the end of Disney Infinity.
