FastPass Cancellations Beyond September 28th Hint at Extension to Primeval Whirl Closure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

June, July, August, September… and now, possibly October. We are now going on month three of no Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The attraction never opened on June 17th, 2019 and it has yet to reopen to this day, despite various announcements claiming it would, eventually, reopen.

The attraction’s ride vehicles have sat unmoved since July now.

The only reason given so far for the attraction’s closure is that it’s “due to unexpected and unscheduled maintenance.” But sometimes, you just have a feeling, a hunch…

Many of our readers have reported in as having received cancellation emails for their Primeval Whirl FastPasses. Mind you, these are FastPasses scheduled well into October:

The last official extended closure announcement listed September 29th as the attraction’s ultimate reopening day, but given these cancellation emails, it’s safe to say that the dinos won’t be whirling into October, either.

Those with existing Primeval Whirl FastPasses are being automatically given DINOSAUR FastPasses during their originally chosen time slot. (Do note that this has varied. At times, a Multiple Experience FastPass has been issued for an attraction in the same tier.)

The official Walt Disney World Primeval Whirl attraction page currently lists no official announcement regarding any issues with the attraction.

  1. Man, Disney Damage Control needs to get off their butts and say something already. This is the kind of thing you expect from Six Flags, not Walt Disney World. If they are “exploring new options” because the cost is too high to repair, just say it.

    • Its because of safety due to an accident on a similar model at Lightwater Valley in UK. Calm down

  2. I’ve seen some discussion that this could be related to the serous injury to a child on similar ride in May. Investigations are ongoing and Disney may be waiting for the results of that investigation before re-opening it. With a ride that has had issues in the past from a vendor that is not still in business, can’t blame them for being extra cautious.

    • I had not heard about that. If that is the case, a simple “we are working to ensure guest safety” would go a LONG way.

    • I live near a theme park in the UK that has a very similar ride to this, and in May quite rightly mentioned, there was an incident where a boy fell from the ride whilst it was in motion causing serious injuries. Investigations are ongoing into how this happened, and I’m guessing the seat restraints will be looked at in detail

    • Totally agree…this is a family favorite ride and typically our first ride for trip. My boys were bummed we aren’t able to maintain tradition.

  3. Why on earth would you fast pass that train wreck. We were there two days before Christmas a couple years ago on a near max capacity day and it had a 30 minute standby queue.

  4. Its closed because the company who owns the ride went out of business. Disney does not own that ride.

  5. If Disney needs to close a ride to keep its guests safe, then I have no qualms about them closing it until it has been determined that it is safe to ride. Better to be safe than sorry!
