The cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have started to be removed to make way for the new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) cabins coming in 2024.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Cabin Deconstruction Begins

Walt Disney World and Disney Vacation Club announced the proposed plans to refresh the cabins earlier this year, with more than 350 new cabins to replace those existing at the resort.

A permit for the construction of the new cabins was filed in September 2023, with a set expiration date of May 18, 2025.

While visiting Fort Wilderness for the 2023 Halloween Golf Cart Parade, we saw that two of the cabins were already completely cleared out from their spots at the campgrounds. Above and below are photos of one of those former cabin locations.

Here, only the driveway and a nearby trashcan remain. The two missing cabins we spotted were located at the 2200 loop of the campgrounds, on Arrowhead Way.

These new Disney Vacation Club cabins are projected to open next year and will be the 17th DVC resort once the update is complete.

Disney said in the initial announcement that the proposed cabins “would be built with an eye toward the environment, utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features.”

Design concepts offer a fresh take on the current cabin experience and are inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling. Each proposed, stand-alone cabin offers spacious accommodations, sleeping up to six adults, and features a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen and private patio. A select number of cabins are also expected to be dog-friendly.

This cabin change is part of a larger update to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which also includes the recent refurbishment of Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern. New composite exterior seating outside Crockett’s Tavern replaced wooden furniture and metal picnic tables.

A new building, likely for Cast Members, is under construction on the former site of Tri-Circle-D Ranch near Pioneer Hall. A new larger Tri-Circle-D Ranch facility opened in June 2020.
