Crews continue to make progress on construction happening at Grand Avenue in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as another portion of wall has been removed.
Grand Avenue Construction
Construction walls first went up earlier this month just outside of the Muppets section, blocking off a significant portion of the area in front of Gonzo’s Royal Flush restrooms.
Past the construction barriers, we can see that a concrete wall that previously extended much further out and was rough around the edges has since reduced in size and looks cleaner.
It is unclear if this gray concrete wall was a new addition to the Grand Avenue construction and part of whatever refurbishment is happening here, or if it was part of the original wall that was removed. A piece of what could possibly be a portion of the wall or equipment has also been covered by yellow scrim or tarp.
As you can see, this concrete wall is much shorter and more rounded off than it was previously. You can also see that a tree has been cut down to possibly make way for more construction, or to make working in this area easier to navigate.
The Grand Avenue construction walls still extend all the way over to the Pride Month balloons photo op.
If you’re concerned about the possible effects on Muppet*Vision 3D, don’t worry. The attraction is still operating as normal during the construction.
Muppet*Vision 3D & Grand Avenue
Muppet*Vision 3D originally opened in 1991, and was one of the first representations of the Muppets in Disney Parks. It is still the only permanent Muppet attraction to exist.
Directed by Jim Henson, Muppet*Vision 3D was one of his and puppeteer Richard Hunt’s final projects before their deaths. This marked the final time that Henson performed as Kermit the Frog, Waldorf and The Swedish Chef, and the last time that Hunt performed as Scooter, Statler, Beaker, and Sweetums. Henson passed away in 1990, and Hunt followed in 1992 after the attraction’s premiere.
Until 2016, Muppet*Vision 3D was part of Streets of America, which was demolished to make way for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The area was then renamed to Grand Avenue in 2017. It is the only attraction here, but the area also includes restaurants like PizzeRizzo, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and BaseLine Tap House. Back in April, we took note of the wear and tear many seats in the theater for Muppet*Vision are showing.
