Space Mountain has been in a soft-opening phase intermittently throughout the day Saturdatyand WDWNT Reporter Brandon Struve was lucky enough to experience the updated attraction twice during that period. Luckily for us, he has plenty of pictures and video to share with us:

We’ll start off with a video of the attraction.

As previously reported, the exterior is looking fresh with the new green accents

Inside the queue, the old destinations board has been replaced by this sign, bolstering the new Starport storyline

Hard to see here, but the Fastpass queue has remained unchanged

These new constellation boards are on the stand-by side

Note that the queue song called “promising Tomorrows” has remained part of the attraction

Is Disney building a resort in space? :)

Another board has Ariel on it

This robot character explains the new queue games guests can play

A look at the long line of asteroid blasting games

Once you complete the game, you will see this instructional message

The lighted buttons will also turn off

The updated loading area

New signs around the control tower, guests can no longer see into the booth

Hard to see here, but there is a projection of a space station similar to the one featured in Horizons on the loading area ceiling

New lights and signage can be found behind the track in the loading area

These “hatches” in the loading area are now purple

More roof projections in the loading area

Hard to see here, but the loading gates in use at the Disneyland attraction have come to Florida

For the most part (leaving out on-ride photo), the on-ride experience is the same, perhaps only darker. The blue light tunnel has a new sound effect and a strange new light effect at the end of it before your rocket makes the turn. We have already documented the addition of the new astronauts on the lift hill. I’m not sure what the overall reaction to this has been, but I’m ecstatic that most of the original 1975 ride experience remains intact.

Some of the luggage at the exit of the attraction has labels for Mesa Verde, a fictional city featured in Horizons at Epcot

A look at the photo preview

Vinylmation is now being sold inside the Tomorrowland Light and Power Co. at the exit

A large plain Vinylmation is also on display inside the store

A retro Space Mountain shirt for sale

The inside of the arcade looks the same for the most part

You can also see your photo at the registers before purchasing
