New Star Tours and Little Mermaid Attraction Details

At the media festivities last week at Disneyland Resort, we got a closer look and a few more details about both “Under The Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid” and “Star Tours II” (note that Disney has dropped the II from the name, but we’ll be using it just to differentiate it from the current version of the attraction). While the previews are meant for Disneyland, both attractions will be almost identical at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.

First looking at the Little Mermaid dark ride, the clam vehicles are actually different from the Seas with Nemo and Friends

The three colors of vehicles will close like a Haunted Mansion Doombuggy, not have a center door like Nemo

Looking at the large model, here’s the “Under the Sea” sequence

Guests will encounter an incredible audio animatronic version of Ariel singing “Part of Your World”

An overall view reveals the entire layout of the attraction: Guests load, encounter Scuttle, dive under the sea, encounter Ariel, enter the huge “Under the Sea” sequence, encounter Ursula, enter the “Kiss the Girl” sequence, then see the first kiss and defeat of Ursela, and of course, it ends happily ever after

Note that this layout may be slightly different for the Magic Kingdom version

Not sure what will be going on during this turn that seems to have no full scene

The original animators were consulted on how she should look, so the version in the ride will best represent the original film and no work after that

Some of the incredible technology we have seen in Mr. Potato Head at Toy Story Midway Mania and Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland will be used and surpassed by this figure. She’ll feature life-like movements from head to fin, and even have audio animatronic moving hair. Note the incredible movement her mouth alone will feature.
