Cruising to Alaska… Disney Style

VM
The Disney Cruise Line has another Vinylmation in it’s family. This one is celebrating the inaugural trip to Alaska for the Disney Wonder. It is designed by Maria Clapsis and is LE 2500. Thanks to Brad for these great pictures.

As you can see, it comes packaged in a commemorative box.
The figure looks like a totem pole. It has Mickey on top and Pluto in the body. The colors are spectacular and it has that wood grain look to it.

On the back, those great colors continue. In the head, you can see the Disney Cruise Lines logo. In the body, the figure reads “Inaugural Alaska Sailings 2011” and Disney Cruise Line. I like the detail in the ankle area and the markings on the arms.
As you saw, it comes in a box, so you get the cardboard stand to display the figure on. The box has the DCL logo. I still don’t understand the placement for the price tag you see in the back if the designer wants you use this as a display… peel it off and the residue is still there.

  1. I traveled on the fourth cruise of the Disney Wonder back in February. They still had plenty of the inagural vinylmations for sale then. They limited it at first to several per cabin but by the end of the week, you could buy more. They had an open box of 3 and a 24 mystery box in the store that sold the vinylmations. You could trade from these each day. They also had a wide selection of Disney vinylmations to buy as well. I bought one of the 9″ Disney Wonder vinylmations and got the captain of the ship to sign it. It was a great voyage.

  2. On the Wonder, the boxes and displays are now CLEARLY MARKED … no trades, no refunds. These Alaska Totem Pole Vinylmations were flying off the shelves … and are fetching over $80 on ebay as we speak!

  3. Very cute, I’d definetly like to have one but just glanced at ebay prices & currently looks to be going for around 70 bucks. With an edition size of 2500 I figure that’ll come down eventually, & I’m going to wait. Another great design by Maria though.

  4. Definitely a must have for me. I love it! Any vinylmation that has Pluto in it has to be in my collection. But since I won’t be going on any disney cruise any time soon, I will have to buy it on ebay or trade for it but I’m definitely going to wait for the prices to come down. I love any Maria Clapsis design!

  5. My friend that picked the Totem Vinyl up for me said they sold out and she could not get any more, but looking at the back of the vinyl, it does say Inuagural SAILINGS 2011. Did you catch the plural of sailings? Disney may have held some Totems back for future cruises, apparently, like they did on the 1st DCL vinyl, that everyone thought was long sold out.
