WDWNT Reporter Dirk Wallen visited Downtown Disney on Sunday and has some newsworthy photos to share with us from his trip:
Here’s how the parking structure construction looks to guests
A third food truck has arrived on the West Side
It’s the World Showcase of Flavors
There is some mystery construction happening outside of House of Blues
Nothing new to see at the West side Starbucks location
A look over some construction walls on Pleasure Island
There is one small structure that is now enclosed
The remains of Comedy Warehouse
No visible work over here yet
Demolition of Captain Jack’s has begun so a new pedestrian bridge can be constructed in the Marketplace
A second Downtown Disney Starbucks is now going up next door to World of Disney in the Marketplace
One mystery solved…Counter Service BBQ coming to House of Blues. http://www.totalorlando.com/blog/house-blues-coun…
The "mystery" construction taking place at House of Blues is for a quick service location for House of Blues. I believe it will be serving BBQ.
I am relieved Capt. Jacks is gone, the food there was awful when I visited.
The food and service used to be great a Captain Jack's up until the early 2000's. I do like how Disney makes changes to various attractions, resorts, and restaurants to make each trip more adventurous. It is cool to watch the building demolished because you know something new and exciting is coming – a bridge.
I have pictures from my first visit back in 1971, and through the decades and it is cool to see the progressive changes each year. Some of you remember Lake Buena Vista Village (formally Disney Institute), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Magic Kingdom), Skyway (Magic Kingdom), Disney Institute (now DVC's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa), World of Motion (EPCOT), Treasure / Discovery Island (island abandoned in Bay Lake), River Country (abandoned water park), etc. Disney World is continually changing so we can bring back our kids to enjoy into the future.
I'm actually kind of glad to see Captain Jack's go… they were not very good. But on a completely unrelated note, Earl of Sandwich is an amazing restaurant with good food and great service!
