Yes, you heard correctly, “TRON 3” has apparently been green lit by Disney and will begin filming in Vancouver this year.

According to VancityBuzz.com:

The sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy will be filmed in Vancouver beginning this fall.

According to Vancity Buzz entertainment contributor Lindsay Barker, Walt Disney Pictures has green lighted the third film in the Tron series. Filming is scheduled to begin on October 5, 2015.

The project has been in development since the success of the 2010 film, which raked in $400 million with a $170 million budget.

At this time, only Garrett Hedlund has been confirmed to return to the cast. In the previous film, Hedlund starred as Sam Flynn, the son of series original character Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges) who was stuck in the Grid’s digital world for two decades. The character Quorra, a skilled Grid warrior and confidante to Kevin, was portrayed by Olivia Wilde.

  • They may as well have Scarlett Johansson be in the movie since her latest Black Widow costume looks very Tron-esque.

I really did like Tron Legacy, and would definitely go see this one. I just hope they are able to re-cast Olivia Wilde.

    • I am sure they will be able to cast Olivia Wilde. I am sure she has been waiting for that phone call for years. I really enjoyed Tron Legacy too and really hoped that they would continue the story. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we receive more of an official announcement from Disney soon.

  • I re-watched the classic Tron and Tron legacy the other day.
How they would pick up from the second instalment of the series I don’t know…
Jeff Bridges’s character has somehow lived on re-creating the city he wanted and it’s somehow taken over “the cloud” in the real world with CLU’s alter image minions infecting servers world wide so Sam Flynn takes on a band of anonymous hackers around the globe to defeat CLU and finally bring Dad home!

Until there’s a trailer for this project I’ll just keep riding Test track at Epcot in anticipation..

  • Really looking forward to its release. Tron Legacy was visually amazing and it had great soundtrack. Like to know what happened to Tron. Did he really turn from the “Dark Side”? (Ooops wrong movie). Also I like to know how they plan to bring Clu into our world. You know its going to be the storyline. Good stuff!
