Disney Not Happy With First Cut Of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

Disney executives have viewed the first cut of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and feel that the film does not live up to expectations. The film will undergo reshoots this summer in order to address issues before it’s December 16th release date. With this being the first “Star Wars” spinoff film, it has to establish a good precedent and Disney does not want to leave anything to chance.

From Page Six:

One Hollywood source told us, “The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and ‘Rogue One’ will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July.”

‘Rogue One’ has fallen short of what J.J. Abrams did with ‘Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens.’ So Disney has ordered reshoots.”

Gareth Edwards is well-known as a risk-taking director, but has also been reported to prefer to keep studio influence at a minimum. The source added, “Disney won’t take a back seat, and is demanding changes, as the movie isn’t testing well.”

A Disney source added, “The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting. Coming off The Force Awakens, there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”

The previews for this were better than the entire Force Awakens film.

The source for this story is a gossip page in one of America’s least credible newspapers. I’ll take it with a grain of salt.

We’ll see what happens in July if they do reshoots or not. Wouldn’t be surprised if they want to see more Vader in this.

Probably they want more than 1 or 2 characters to survive for chance of a sequel. Imagine an already familiar “dirty dozen” style team sniping at imperials, taking losses each time but struggling through. There are a few years to work with between Yavin and Endor. And 30+ years of troubles after Endor apparently… If this film is any good and it looks very good, Disney would want to hedge its bets to allow for sequel.

I cant wait for them to announce “Rogue One Two: Another Star Wars Story”. :) But yea, I could see them doing a sequel that would exist parallel to the Original Trilogy. Think that would be a cool idea. Maybe having some of them fight on Hoth.

joe thanks for the information and dont listen to any of these negative individuals that want to knock anything you put out. If they dont like what you are putting out or this is Americas least credible newspaper then why are they reading it. Thanks again cant wait to for more star wars info.

Thanks Matt. I’m used to it. :) The NY Post has been getting like the Enquirer lately but their Page Six section has a decent track record. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed that there will be about a month of reshoots in July but Disney isnt necessarily freaking out. More like they feel it may be a bit dark and they want to add some humor to it. I thought it was supposed to be a dark movie. They also mentioned, like I said, probably more Vader or maybe bringing in the new Han Solo. Hope they dont… Read more »

Thanks for the info Force Awaken was just sooooo great I think they dont want a let down. For fans I guess that great but…. I dont think Solo would work in this move. I dont even know how they could bring him in. Vader great but I would like to see something new. Thanks again and keep the Disney and Star Wars news coming.
