PHOTOS: Leaked Concept Art and Model Reveal Budget-Cut Plans for New York-Themed Marvel Land and Spider-Man Roller Coaster at Disneyland Paris

By now, you’ve heard about what fans are calling the Spider-Man version of Toy Story Midway Mania coming to Disney Parks, but some leaked concept art and model pictures of the original plans for the Disneyland Paris project point to something grander that almost happened.

The art above shows a portion of Walt Disney Studios Paris as it appears now, followed by plans to turn the area into a Marvel-fied version of New York City, home to Iron Man and Spider-Man. Sadly, this was all changed to the seemingly value-engineered “Avengers Campus” design that we’ll be seeing at Anaheim and in Paris. Note that the tiny subway train in the art would have been a real attraction that guests could ride. Way in the back, that is the show building for Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster covered in a city skyline as well. Pretty neat, huh? Well, thanks Bob.

It’s worth noting that the Marvel area at Hong Kong Disneyland features a Stark Expo theme and storyline that deviates from the other projects, and continued into the Ant-Man and the Wasp – Nano Battle attraction that opened just a few days ago. That attraction has received mostly negative feedback for its heavy reliance on screens and lack of moving props. Hopefully this isn’t a trend with these Marvel attractions, given that Avengers: Endgame is on course to be the highest grossing film of all time, it doesn’t make much sense to cut corners with these properties.

Model pictures feature what will be the Iron Man roller coaster, an overlay of the existing Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster attraction. The plans were more impressive at first and instead called for a Spider-Man overlay, showing the addition of sets replicating the streets and skyscrapers of The Big Apple. We expect the approved version of this ride to trade these physical sets for screens and projections.

Also note that both Spider-Man and the Green Goblin appear at several points along the track (hilariously in action figure form).

Rock’ N’ Roller Coaster avec Aerosmith is set to close for its Iron Man overlay on September 2nd, 2019. It is unclear when the plans changed, but we won’t be getting the things you see pictured above. It will be this instead:So what do you think? Was this a better plan than what Disney is now executing for Walt Disney Studios Paris?

  1. Oh my god!!! I would kill for a Spiderman Roller Coaster. Plus having a subway type trolley that could have been another ride seems way cooler. I really really do not want another Toy Story Midway Mania or Buzz Lighteryear. They’re great for those genres but not for Marvel. Come on Disney. Step it up.
