The Odyssey building has been experiencing updates since early last year, but they have all been interior updates so far. When it reopened on New Year’s Eve in 2018, we saw a clean and crisp modern look, but it had lost its touch of eighties nostalgia.
A few weeks ago, we noticed some paint work going on outside of the building, giving its entire facade a grayscale, neutral color scheme. While it’s hard to tell due to the clouds, the building now sports a stark, all-black rooftop, and paint work continues on yet. Take a look at all the changes below.
Some scaffolding is up on the side of the building while painting continues.
The walls look about done, as it seems they’re staying this stark white color.
The planters, however, aren’t quite done yet. Until recently, some of the column bases retained that ugly terracotta brown color. (Even more striking against the grey, white, and black colors.) They’ve since been fully stripped and sanded down, which is rare and drastic to see compared to usual park paint jobs.
Here’s what The Odyssey’s exterior used to look like before, for reference:
The brown planters, beige sidings, and light blue paint at the top have all gone away for this new look.
This is all in part of transforming The Odyssey for the new “Walt Disney Imagineering Presents the Epcot Experience”, which we got to learn more about at this past weekend’s D23 Expo 2019. You can check out more details and concept art on the experience coming to the pavilion here.
As Epcot keeps going through more changes, such as the Rose Walk Pathway, Wonders of Life Pavilion and the Guardians of the Galaxy Roller Coaster to name a few, WDWNT will keep you updated on all the latest construction occurring around the park.
Can’t wait for the new epcot!!!!! I am going to surprise my family that we are going with a surprise box from waltlife.com :)
