Normally in Galaxy’s Edge, guests “testing out” their newly created droids around Batuu was generally frowned upon, and the Batuuans would often tell you this wasn’t allowed, out of fear that the First Order would come and confiscate your new droid companion. The only exception to this would be if Chewbacca, or another Batuuan, would host a droid race when the coast was clear.

Today, we found this hard plastic mat outside of Droid Depot for guests to play with their new droids, or to test out a few others to see if they really wanted to build their own. Not only does this addition address guests’ yearnings to test out their droids, but it also adds something for guests to do in a land with basically just one attraction and two expensive upcharge experiences.

This local Batuuan was supervising these droids in training and encouraging other travelers to bring their own droids to the new testing grounds. It’ll be interesting to see if we get better-themed mats moving forward, instead of just plain grey ones.

The droid remote controls are fairly simple, but this new experience allows guests to properly understand how to control their new droid. The local Batuuans are more than willing to help travelers with this new experience.
If you’re unsure if you wish to create your own droid while on Batuu, make sure to check out this new experience to see if a droid is right for you. Or, check out our own review on when we built our own droid when Galaxy’s Edge first opened up. Keep in mind, the price range for this droid building experience isn’t necessarily cheap, so you might get the same enjoyment from playing with these demo droids outside before making your final decision.
