UPDATE: Walt Disney World Free Dining Offer Value Can Be Applied Towards Pass Renewal for Annual Passholders with Reservations Impacted by Coronavirus Closure

Yesterday, it was announced that the Summer Free Dining offer that was originally released earlier in the year would be extended to most guests with previously-booked vacation packages or room reservations that had been affected by Walt Disney World Resort’s extended closure due to COVID-19.

The offer was meant to be privately extended to those directly affected, but as word got out (which is a good thing, because not all guests consistently receive Disney emails or updates), it seems they’ve added it to their running list of Coronavirus-related updates on their home page for reference, under the “Disney Resort Rooms and Packages” tab:

Here are the base details listed for the offer:

Eligible guests can take advantage of a vacation package offer that includes accommodations at a select Disney Resort hotel, park admission and a Disney dining plan – valid for arrivals most nights June 1 through September 30, 2020 when you book through May 31, 2020.

This offer is valid only for Guests who previously booked a vacation package or room reservation to stay at a Disney Resort hotel from March 16 through May 31, 2020 (even if the park opens before then). The offer not valid for reservations cancelled before March 1, 2020.

However, many guests had questions in terms of how this new offer could be applied to their cancelled reservations, as it would require a completely new booking, and as with all Free Disney Dining Plan offers, a full vacation package must be purchased. As more guests have inquired as to the intricacies of the offer, there are new details for Annual Passholders:

As posted by Theresa of the No-Guilt Disney Podcast on Twitter, for Annual Passholders who previously had a vacation planned during the closure who want to take advantage of the Free Dining offer, they must still technically purchase the minimum 2-day tickets required for the offer, but the cost of these tickets can be applied towards an Annual Pass renewal or purchase. This gives Annual Passholders a bit more flexibility and access to the offer. (While applying ticket purchases towards APs is often an option, this serves as further confirmation with regards to this specific offer.)

It seems this is the first of many more Disney offers and incentives to come in the wake of these unprecedented extended closures. For more detail on the Free Dining offer for COVID-19 impacted reservations, click here.

In conjunction with the Free Dining offer, Walt Disney World has also moved to only accepting bookings for travel starting on June 1 or later. As stated within the offer’s fine print, whether or not Walt Disney World will remain closed until June 1st is still undecided.
