Bob Chapek States Walt Disney World Would be Glad to Host the MLS and NBA, MLS Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports in the Works

Bob Chapek appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Valley today to discuss the recent news that Walt Disney World would begin phased openings on July 11. During the interview, Chapek stated that Disney would be “glad” to host both the MLS and NBA to help resume their respective seasons.

For weeks, there has been speculation from NBA insiders that a deal was in the works for the NBA to finish their season at ESPN Wide World of Sports, with players and staff even staying on Walt Disney World property to increase safety. Around the time of the interview, ESPN posted an article stating plans were in the works for a shortened MLS season also at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

According to the article, “The teams would then take part in a group stage comprised of five matches, followed by a knockout stage. The group-stage games would count in the regular-season standings”. Teams would spend a little over a month in Orlando, with June 21 being the projected date for teams to travel to Central Florida.

There are no projected dates for the NBA’s plan at Disney, but the NBA itself recently confirmed there were talked occurring between Disney World and the NBA.
