New “Tron” Movie Reportedly in Development; Jared Leto to Star

Could moviegoers soon be heading back to The Grid? A new report seems to suggest so.

10 Things to Know About Tron Legacy

According Deadline, the next installment in the Tron sci-fi franchise is moving forward in development, with Jared Leto starring and Garth Davis (Mary Magdalene, Lion) tapped to direct. Tron would be Davis’ first tentpole film. Leto is producing alongside Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook. Justin Kroll of Deadline makes a point to say that the movie has not officially been green-lit yet, but is in development.

Previously, Leto had reportedly been tapped for a Tron reboot separate from the events of the previous two films. Walt Disney Studios’ President of Music & Soundtracks Mitchell Leib discussed the sequel on the Light the Fuse Podcast and his hopes to bring the electronic music performers Daft Punk back to score the sequel.

In the Disney Parks, the world of Tron has been kept alive with Tron Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland. A version of the ride, named Tron Lightcycle/RUN, is currently under construction at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
