Permit Filed for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge at Walt Disney World Amidst Cancellation Rumors

Amidst cancellation rumors for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge at Walt Disney World, a new permit was filed just this morning listing the location of the construction site: 4500 Big Pine Road.

The contractor listed is Colwill Engineering, a firm based out of Orlando and Tampa. The permit lists “General Construction” as the work description, however it’s unknown what exact work is being done, and whether plans for the resort are back on.

With project cancellation rumors circulating regarding DVC’s planned Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge, recent updates showed changes to an old Disney Parks Blog post from August 2019 outlining all of the announcements made during last year’s D23 Expo.

The announcement for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge has since been removed from the post, with changes likely made during the first week of August. Disney has been known to quietly change announcement posts like these in cases of cancelled, altered, or delayed projects.

Disney has not officially announced or commented on the current state of the Reflections project, with no current signs of construction at the former site of River Country besides staged equipment and materials.

  1. To be honest, I hope this project is still in turnaround, if at the very least to go back to the drawing board.

Disney resorts are starting to get more homogenized all around when it comes to overall look and they are also losing their unique theming. Reflections, for all the zip they tried to infuse in it, was still a very flat theme. I think nature has been already covered well by the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness.

I miss the grand ideas of the past, which could still work today, like the Venetian Resort or the Persian Resort. Themes that are not already represented in some way on Disney property…

  2. I am holding out hope for a re-tooling of this resort. The Reflections theme was flat at best, as it resembled an newly remolded Courtyard by Marriott I had stayed at for work!

Come on, Disney – give us your best! I’d love to see a resurrection of the Settlement Outpost theme planned for this site back in the 90s.
