Polynesian Village Resort Overhaul Will Bring New Porte Cochere, Entrance, and Modified Monorail Station, Crossbeams Will Be Removed from Great Ceremonial House

With Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort not reopening until Summer 2021, work on the resort’s Great Ceremonial House is set to begin next week, on September 28. Now, Disney has released additional details on the refurbishment, including hours for each location and aesthetic changes coming to the resort.

As part of the work completed, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will soon feature a new porte cochere, entryway, and a modified monorail station. The Great Ceremonial House will continue to include the architectural detail of the crossbeams, though fans who look closely will notice fewer beams, creating a more sophisticated, cleaner design.

To complete the refurbishment, work will take place at the Great Ceremonial House Sunday nights through Thursday nights, from 10 p.m.–4:30 a.m. beginning on October 4; as a result, there will be some changes to the Guest experience:

  • On Sept. 28, the Front Desk area will move to a temporary location at Pago Pago, building #11.
  • The porte cochere and front entrance will be unavailable beginning Sept. 28. Guests arriving by personal vehicle or Disney’s Magical Express will be directed to the right from the security kiosk.
  • Operating hours will be adjusted for the following locations beginning Oct. 4:
    • Kona Café: Sun.–Thu.: 7:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m., Fri. & Sat.: 7:30 a.m.–9 p.m.
    • Moana Mercantile: 8 a.m.–9:30 p.m.
    • Pineapple Lanai: 10 a.m.–9 p.m.
    • Tambu Lounge: Sun.–Thu.: 2–9 p.m., Fri. & Sat.: 4–11 p.m.
  • The monorail station at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be closed beginning November 2.

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will remain open for guests while the rest of the resort’s rooms receive a Moana-themed makeover. Additional details regarding this refurbishment will be shared in the near future.
