This is a black vanilla shortcake with strawberry filling topped with violet cream, a neon green frosting, and orange and white sprinkles.

It may look ugly, but as the old saying goes, looks aren’t everything.

With strawberry filling looking like it’s ready to ooze out, we were ready to unleash the beast and eat it…

You may notice that we removed the pop from the tube. We tried to push out just the icing and the first layer of cake and it collapsed. With the jelly in the center, it doesn’t just doesn’t have a great structure. The plate was plan B, and we eventually had to go with it.

With how the cake is layered, we actually recommend doing this. Unless you want an inch of icing, followed by an inch of cake, followed by an inch of jelly, this was the best way to get everything together.

The cake tasted fresh, very moist and chocolatey, similar to a cake pop, not unlike the ones at the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. We thought it was extremely tasty.

The strawberry jelly and purple frosting were quite good, Having actual fruit in it was a great touch. It had a pleasant texture which was very smooth.

The top icing was also enjoyable. It was a rather soft and sweet whipped cream topping, and the green color gave it a festive feel. This was a fresh whipped cream which tasted amazing.

All in all, the presentation of the pop was a little weird, but fun at the same time. We had a hard time eating the treat out of the pop and opted for a plate, which caused the whole thing to fall apart, but it was absolutely delicious! In the end, we preferred all the flavors mixed together anyway, which is hard to get while still in the container. We loved this dessert, and think it was worth the trek out to Fort Wilderness.

The push pop sells for $4.99, and can be found at P & J’s Southern Takeout.
