Disneyland Resort to Furlough Additional 1,797 Union and Non-Union Cast Members

News of layoffs and furloughs continue to come from the Disney parks, as yet another set of Cast Members are to be furloughed at Disneyland Resort.

According to the OC Register, 1,797 union and non-union employees at Disneyland Resort, including landscapers, engineers, painters, plasterers and custodians as well as theme park employees working in entertainment, restaurants, and attractions, will be furloughed. Furloughs began late last week, and will continue in waves on subsequent dates through Feb. 21. The news comes by way of the most recent WARN Act notice filed by the company. The furlough also includes 18 Disneyland Resort firefighters.

Disney included the following statement with its WARN Act notice:

We have provided impacted employees as much notice as practicable under the circumstances, as we had to act quickly after the state recently announced its unexpected reopening restrictions, which now make clear that we cannot reopen Disneyland Resort in the foreseeable future.

These furloughs are expected to be temporary, however it is believed that Disneyland Resort and its theme parks may remain shuttered well into 2021.

The last round of Disneyland Resort furloughs took place in early October. Buena Vista Street reopened as a shopping and dining extension of Downtown Disney District on November 19.
