The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed since late 2018. The extended closure is due to TRON: Lightcycle / Run construction. The railroad tracks were rerouted. Additional new track is being installed near the Fantasyland Station.

The Fantasyland Station has been silent for over two years.

New rails are stacked atop railroad ties along the platform.

The railroad ties elevate the track over the rail bed. It appears that synthetic, rather than wood, railroad ties are being used.

The red wheels and axle are used to check the track’s gauge.

  1. I’m going to bet that the railroad will reopen either this Summer or Fall. As a train guy, I’m looking forward to it!

  2. Disney Magic, in part, is the sights, sounds, ans smells of the Magic Kingdom working in concert with each other. Without the train a key element is missing. I must’ve visited Disneyworld just before the train was removed in 2018. The last time I went I knew we would be retiring to the area and we would be purchasing annual passes every year for the rest of my life. Now we’re retired and we all know how that turned out. But that’s the only reason we haven’t been in so long, first time since I was in my teen’s. On a funny note, my wife and I almost bought a lifetime Disney pass in 1975 for $1000. each. We thought, there’s no way we would spend $1000 at a park so we didn’t do it. The story of my life!
