The area where Trader Sam once stood is becoming wider as work continues on the animatronic’s former home. Flora around the site has started to come out as they move outwards with the work. As discussed in this article, work originally started in early April after the removal of Trader Sam. The removal of the animatronic is part of the ongoing changes to address cultural issues on the Jungle Cruise.

As you can see here, the netted area has started to expand and is beginning to take up more real estate as it inches closer to the shoreline.
Trader Sam used to stand here on top of a platform, but not anymore. This is not the only change happening on the World Famous Jungle Cruise. Other areas of the attraction are also getting updates to address cultural insensitivity.
In fact, the “Trapped Safari” rhino pole was recently removed to make way for reimagining. This comes at a time when Disney is shifting to bring awareness to the table.
There is no released timeline for the Jungle Cruise refurbishment. These changes will continue to happen gradually and are targeted for completion for the beginning of “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” later this year. As the refurbishment is happening on both coasts, Jungle Cruise will not reopen with Disneyland Park upon the resort’s reopening.
