According to a new update to the official Disneyland Resort website, the Droid Depot in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will stop offering reservations and begin only accepting walk-ups.

A new notice has been added near the bottom of the Droid Depot page on the official Disneyland Park website. The notice says:

Incoming transmission: Droid Depot in Disneyland Park will no longer offer reservations starting March 17, 2025, but walk-ups are always welcome!

With this new change, guests visiting Disneyland Park after March 16 will not need to pre-book a reservation to take part in the Custom Astromech Unit Building Experience. Instead, guests will be able to walk-up and check for availability during their park visit.

The page to book reservations is still currently active on the website. This option will likely be removed once reservations stop on March 16.

The Custom Astromech Unit Building Experience costs $99 plus tax and lasts approximately 20 minutes. Each paying guest is allowed to build one custom droid using various premade parts provided by Cast Members. The experience area is limited to the builder and two guests, but the guests are not allowed to build droids unless they make a separate reservation. Guests are encouraged to arrive at the Droid Depot a few minutes before their building time is set to begin.

Each builder is provided a plastic basket and a designated location around the depot’s center conveyer belt. The various components for the droids pass by on the belt, and builders can choose any combination set parts. Guests can choose to build an R-Series droid shaped like R2-D2, a BB-Series droid shaped like BB-8, or a C-Series droid like C1-10P (aka Chopper). The parts required for each droid differ by series, and guests will be given instructions for the series they choose to build.

Each custom droid is approximately 18″ tall and is battery powered. Once guests finish their astromech, they are also provided a remote control and cardboard carrying box for the droid. Additional components, such as personality-affiliation chips, attachments, and various accessories, are available for an extra charge. Two droids with personality chips are programmed to interact with each other.

The Droid Depot has periodically updated its offerings to include new parts, colors, or limited series, often for special events like May the 4th.

An important note is that as of the time of writing, this change has not taken place at the Droid Depot in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Guests visiting the Droid Depot in Florida are still highly recommended to book a reservation prior to arriving, and full payment is still required at the time of booking.
