The Haunted Mansion Little Golden Book, based on the Haunted Mansion attraction is now available at Walt Disney World. We found the book at Memento Mori in Magic Kingdom.
Haunted Mansion Little Golden Book – $5.99
The cover of the Little Golden Book features the three hitchhiking ghosts standing in front of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.
The interior cover features an all-over Little Golden Book print with a space to write the name of who the book belongs to. The first page of the book displays the Haunted Mansion sign with flowers and a raven.
The book begins with a group of friends standing outside the gates of the Haunted Mansion with one of the friends being dared to venture inside.
Upon entering the Haunted Mansion, the character enters the stretching room with the portraits hanging on the walls. They’re greeted by the ghost host saying “Welcome, foolish mortal, to the Haunted Mansion,” just like in the attraction.
On the following page, the main character walks through the halls being guided by the Ghost Host and viewing the hallway gallery. They then board a Doom Buggy to take them through the Haunted Mansion as the ghost host warns “There’s no turning back now.”
As the main character travels throughout the mansion, many scenes play out similar to that of the attraction. They pass a coffin with a muffled voice inside saying “Let me out of here!” Madame Leota is also floating in her crystal ball surrounded by floating musical instruments.
The large ballroom scene is also illustrated with all the ghosts having a “swinging wake.”
Next, they travel up into the attic where the ghostly bride is located. In this depiction, the Bride appears to be Constance Hatchaway as there is a portrait of the bride and one of her beheaded husbands. The page on the right displays the Hatbox Ghost with his head appearing in the hatbox he’s holding.
The Doom Buggy then moves the character along towards the graveyard as they pass by flying spirits. The groundskeeper and his dog on the next page have shocked faces as they look out into the graveyard just like in the attraction.
The graveyard is filled with ghosts as they play musical instruments and singing a song.
The Doom Buggy passes by the singing busts and ghosts having a tea party.
The next pages show the hitchhiking ghosts as the ghost host warns, “Beware of hitchhiking ghosts!”
The main character looks into a mirror in front of her and sees one of the ghosts seated next to her as the ghost host says “They’ll haunt you until you return!” The main character then jumps out of the Doom Buggy and runs outside as a small spirit says “Hurry back! Make your final arrangements now. We’ve been dying to have you.”
The final page shows the four friends back together with the three hitchhiking ghosts peering out from around the corner behind them.
The back cover displays other Little Golden Books including a few Disney ones such as “Jungle Cruise,” “it’s a small world,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
