Fire Weather Watch Issued Again for Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued another fire weather watch for Orange County, which is home to Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort.

Fire Weather Watch

The latest Orange County fire weather watch has been posted today for Monday, March 17, from afternoon through 7 pm. A fire watch means the current weather conditions are perfect for fires to spread, such as low humidity and a steady wind.

A fire weather warning was previously issued for Orange County on March 5 for many of the same reasons. The watch on March 5 was later upgraded to a red flag warning for Central Florida, which means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.

Wind advisory for East Central Florida from 11AM-6PM EDT. South winds 15-25 MPH, gusts over 35 MPH. Secure loose objects at places like Universal Orlando. High-profile vehicles face difficulties. Updated March 16, 2025.

This warning comes shortly after the NWS issued a wind advisory for East Central Florida earlier today. Winds are expected to reach 15-25 mph at a sustained level, while gusts may reach 35 mph. According to The Weather Channel, the temperatures in Orlando are expected to reach the mid 80s today. Monday will be a bit cooler with a high in the upper 60s, but the winds are expected to be high and the humidity is low.

Wildfire Safety Tips: Discard cigarettes properly, keep vehicles off dry grass, avoid open flames, and obey bans. If a Red Flag Fire Warning is issued or smoke approaches, evacuate immediately. Visit weather.gov/fire for more information.

The NWS has previously shared wildfire safety graphics during the last few warnings, which include advice for avoiding potential wildfires. Outdoor burning is currently not recommended for guests at either Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando Resort, which includes outdoor grilling or a campfire at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Guests are also encouraged to properly discard cigarettes, avoid activities with open flames, and keep vehicles off of dry grass.
