The hotel’s park entrance closed on March 10 and will remain closed through mid-May. Disney later announced the Grand Californian would get updated, enhanced entry gates — likely the same as those being installed at the main park entrances.

Due to wind on the day of our visit, the tarps that usually covered construction were rolled up, revealing the scale of work. We could see the former entrance gates, having been completely torn out of place.

More construction materials and vehicles were closer to the hotel.

On the hotel side of the entrance, barriers block access.

There are two sets of barriers and closed doors. Cast Members were stationed in the area, too.

Though this sign directs guests through the Downtown Disney District to reach Disney California Adventure, there is another way via Pixar Place Hotel.

The pathway is open, however, guests just have to walk through some scrim.

There are several signs directing hotel guests from the Grand Californian lobby to Disney California Adventure. The route goes through a hallway of guest rooms and then to the Pixar Place entrance.

Meanwhile, Storytellers Cafe is closed for a refurbishment. It will be closed for just a few weeks to refresh the restaurant’s kitchen. Construction walls are up and most of the restaurant’s windows are blacked out.

During the refurbishment, the Storytellers Cafe experience is available in the Trillium Room.

The Trillium Room is a conference room along the walkway between the hotel lobby and Downtown Disney.

All of the ongoing construction at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is part of a project to “refresh” the hotel and “elevate” the guest experience.
