A new filing reveals the possible name of a roller-coaster at the new upcoming Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas.
Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster
Universal filed to trademark “Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster” for theme parks, with a generic logo. Filed on March 11, the trademark is awaiting examination, which can sometimes take years.
The name is an obvious reference to “Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous,” an animated series set during and after the events of “Jurassic World” (2015). The series aired on Netflix from 2020-2022, with a sequel series, “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory,” beginning in 2024.
One of the Universal Kids Resort lands will be inspired by “Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.” Though the initial land reveal only referred to the area as “Jurassic World,” the graphic for Universal Kids Resort features Bumpy, a dinosaur from the animated series.
Because Universal Kids Resort is aimed at a younger crowd, Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster will likely be a small-scale family coaster — a far cry from Jurassic World VelociCoaster at Universal Islands of Adventure.
“Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous” was produced by DreamWorks and most of the Universal Kids Resort lands will be inspired by DreamWorks properties: Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls, and Gabby’s Dollhouse. The exceptions are Illumination’s Minions and Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants.
Universal announced the new family-focused park in January 2023. It’s set to open in 2026 and includes an on-site 300-room hotel.
