REVIEW: Disney Starlight Parade Popcorn Mix with M&M’s in Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom has now released a new popcorn mix themed to the Disney Starlight parade, which is set to make its official debut tonight, July 20.

M&M’s Starlight Popcorn – $16.99

Large tub of Popcorn Mix labeled “Mickey Starlight Popcorn,” inspired by the Magic Kingdom, on display for $16.99.

First, it is important to note that the new Disney Starlight popcorn mix and the themed popcorn bucket are not sold at the same location. The popcorn mix is sold only at the Main Street Confectionery, and it comes in the generic red popcorn container seen in the above image. The Starlight-themed popcorn bucket is sold at multiple popcorn cart locations around Magic Kingdom, but it is filled with regular popcorn, not this special mix.

Moving to the Disney Starlight popcorn mix, we first got a first look at this special treat during the parade media merchandise preview, but we now have a chance to actually try it. The mix includes bubble gum and blue raspberry candy popcorn, M&M’s milk chocolate candies, mini-marshmallows, and a white chocolate drizzle.

The predominant flavor on the actual popcorn is definitely bubble gum, though we did taste some of the blue raspberry as well. The blue raspberry in particular had a somewhat artificial taste, but we weirdly thought it was still really good. It reminded us of the blue raspberry and bubble gum candies you get as a child. You know it isn’t real but like it anyway.

The M&M candies give the mix an added crunchy texture, which helps to balance out the candied popcorn. The white chocolate adds more sweetness over the top, so definitely don’t expect this to be a savory popcorn mix.

Overall, we really enjoyed the Disney Starlight popcorn. It is very sweet, a little artificial, and just a bubblegum-raspberry explosion of flavor — but sometimes you just crave that kind of sugar rush. Plus, it comes in a container with a lid, so you can carry it around for a while and snack on it. Though we definitely recommend storing it in the shade if you want to save it for later, because the usual hot Florida sun is enough to melt a lot of the chocolate topping and make things messy.

Disney Starlight Popcorn Bucket – $14.25

While not sold at the same location as the popcorn mix, guests in Magic Kingdom can also grab the new Disney Starlight parade popcorn bucket. We got an unintentional early preview of this bucket when it was accidentally released in the beginning of June.

The bucket is a standard round shape with a blue carry handle and matching blue plastic lid. The exterior has art of the floats and characters featured in Disney Starlight, as well as the official parade wordmark. Most of the art is similar to the vertical poster added to the entrance of Magic Kingdom this morning.

Now that Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away is set to officially debut tonight, the bucket has returned to Magic Kingdom, officially this time. We found it at the popcorn cart near Cinderella Castle, though we expect it will also be available at other popcorn locations around Magic Kingdom.

The bucket comes with a serving of regular popcorn when purchased, and it can be refilled again for $2.25 per serving.
