Disney has reached a mutual settlement with actress Gina Carano regarding her lawsuit against the company, which she filed after being fired from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Disney Settles with Gina Carano

Gina Carano was one of the main stars of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian as Cara Dune. However, she was dropped by Lucasfilm and Disney after some of her social media posts discussing American politics and COVID-19 went viral in 2021. She proceeded to file a wrongful dismissal and sex discrimination lawsuit in February of 2024, seeking damages and a reinstatement to her previous job. The lawsuit later received funding from X Corporation, which is owned by Elon Musk.
Disney filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in April 2024, claiming their firing of Carano for comparing dislike of certain political views to the Holocaust fell under the company’s First Amendment rights. Disney also attempted a stay of proceedings and an interlocutory appeal. All of these either failed or were denied. The trial was eventually set for September 2025, to which Carano commented, “I am obviously very pleased with the opportunity to keep moving forward with the judicial process and into discovery. While I wish this was not necessary as it is not my desire to be in this battle in court, I will not shrink away from it because it is hard or uncomfortable.”

However, in a recent article from Variety, Disney has reached a mutual settlement with Carano. In a statement to Variety, a Lucasfilm spokesperson said:
The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.
The statement did not include any other details of what exactly the settlement included. It also does not specifically mention that Carano will be returning to The Mandalorian, or any other Lucasfilm projects. However, it is interesting that the spokesperson specifically referenced “opportunities to work together” in the future.

Meanwhile, an article from Deadline added that a source close to Carano said she is “happy with how things were dealt with.” As of the time of writing, Carano has not yet made any specific statements regarding the settlement. However, earlier today she posted a single line on her X account saying, “… and the truth shall set you free.”
Meanwhile, the Mandalorian himself will be returning in the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is set to premiere on May 22, 2026. A short preview of the film and some images were revealed recently as part of Star Wars Celebration Japan.
