According to witnesses, the Little Mermaid float started malfunctioning while it was between the Matterhorn Bobsleds and the hub at approximately 8:50 PM PDT. It was turned off while performers were evacuated, and the float was then towed to the hub area, to an area where the remaining floats could pass by to complete the parade route.

While in the hub, the float began spewing smoke, and multiple eyewitnesses claimed to see flames. It was quickly extinguished, and after about a half hour, the float was towed behind the parade gate in the Town Square gate in Main Street, U.S.A.

A TikTok by @emmuhthefloor chronicled part of the aftermath, and our reporter on the scene was able to witness the tail end of the action.

As of 10:18 PM PDT, the float was being attended to just offstage, where it appears to be blocking the gate. It is unknown if the later parade will run. It does not appear that there were any injuries.
