Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland has reopened its unthemed extended backstage queue and introduced a new rule about cell phone use.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Backstage Queue

The extended queue was first used when Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway stopped offering virtual queue about a month after opening in January 2023. The extended queue was only used for a month or two before closing. It has remained closed for over two years.

Within the last month, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway began using the extended queue again. It has guests exit the theater-themed queue into an outdoor holding area covered by shades. It’s surrounded by tall walls with attached lights. There’s an emergency exit in one corner.

It has no decorations and offers a full view of offices atop the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway queue, breaking the Mickey’s Toontown immersion.

Guests can also see the backstage show buildings of “it’s a small world” and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, the Matterhorn, and the Team Disney Anaheim building.

Instead of fences or stanchions, the queue is outlined with yellow tape on the ground.
Cell Phone Use

Guests are now strictly prohibited from not just taking videos or pictures on the ride, but from holding their cell phones or other loose items. Cast Members are actively checking to make sure guests aren’t holding anything, and new signs in the queue read:
Attention
Secure all personal belongings prior to boarding. Hand-held or loose items, including cell phones, are not permitted to be held while riding.
We witnessed Cast Members stopping the ride to tell guests over the intercom to put away their cell phones.
The rule went into effect after Disney released their own Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway POV video on Disney+.
Queue Props

We also checked on the general state of the queue, which is highly themed and interactive, but also subject to damage. In good news, the Steamboat Willie ship wheel has been restored. For several months, it was anchored down so guests couldn’t spin it. But it’s once again an interactive element.

As always, the fake condiment bar is rough. Two of the condiment cups are now sealed with white tape. Another is missing entirely.

Labels are peeling off the fake condiment dispensers. One is gone, replaced with a sign reading, “The ol’ theater is getting a Toon-Up! (You’ll REEL-y love it!)”
