LEGO Ideas Tower of Terror Set Gains Over 10,000 Supporters, Now Under Review

A fan-created idea for a potential LEGO set themed to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disneyland Paris has just reached over 10,000 supporters.

LEGO Ideas is a page officially run by LEGO where fans can post images and descriptions of their own creations. Viewers are able to comment on the fan-made sets and vote to support their favorites.

After a new set idea is posted on the LEGO Ideas page, it has a set number of days to gain supporters. The first milestone is to reach 100 supporters within the first 60 days. Sets that reach this milestone get additional time periods and increasing support goals. Once a set reaches 10,000 supporters, the project is moved to the Review stage.

As described by LEGO, the Review stage involves a chosen Review Board “composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members” who will examine the idea in more detail. The board will “build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand.”

This extended board review process can last several months. At the end of the review, the creator will be updated as to whether LEGO will continue to develop and eventually sell the idea as a real set.

Some previous sets that became physical products after beginning as ideas include the Magic of Disney set featuring Sorcerer Mickey and the Jaws set.

One set to recently reach this impressive Review milestone is called The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, made by creator CoasterZoom. The set, as one would expect from the name, is based on the attraction at Disneyland Paris. It is also very similar to the version found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, though there are some differences to the exterior facade.

The description of the idea reads, “Welcome to the Hollywood Towel Hotel, a sinister and abandoned place that will take you to the The Twilight Zone! This model faithfully represents the iconic attraction from the Walt Disney Studios amusement park located in France: The Twilight Zone of Terror.”

The description goes on to highlight some features of the potential model. The building has a length of 15 inches, a width of 15.7 inches, and a height of almost 16 inches.

This hotel includes a hall, a heating room, two libraries and three elevator shafts. The hotel gardens are full of trees, and the interior and exterior of the building are very detailed. Several parts of the tour can be dismantled for transport and especially to reveal some details inside.

The creator also included ideas of two minifigures based on the bellhop costumes of the Cast Members.
