Primavera Kitchen debuted at the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival in 2013, and returns for its ninth appearance in 2021. “Mangiare hearty helpings of Old-Country dishes served with a glass of vino… now that’s amore!” This year’s 2021 Taste of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival takes place March 3 – July 5, 2021.

Primavera Kitchen’s menu this year features items from booths at the Italy Pavilion in the last year of festivals. This year’s Margherita flatbread recipe comes from the Italy Marketplace at the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, while the Arancini was previously at L’Arte di Mangiare from the 2021 Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, and the Sicilian Cannoli and both sangrias were last seen at Tuscany Holiday Kitchen during the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays.

Margherita: Rustic Italian Flatbread with Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella – $8.50

Margherita: Rustic Italian Flatbread with Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella – $8.50

This new flatbread offering resembled a flat flour tortilla with a thin layer of cheese and sauce, in both taste and appearance. For many, this floppy-doughed item would be more closely compared to an American-style pizza than an Italian flatbread, however since the menu does state this is the latter, we can’t say it fits the description well.

*NEW* Arancini: Sweet Sausage Fried Risotto Balls with Pomodoro Sauce – $12.00

The crispy exterior was the best part of this fried risotto ball. It definitely needed sauce, but unfortunately the Pomodoro sauce was weak and flavorless.

*NEW* Traditional Sicilian Cannoli: Crisp Pastry Filled with Sweet Ricotta, Chocolate and Candied Orange – $4.95

Traditional Sicilian Cannoli: Crisp Pastry Filled with Sweet Ricotta, Chocolate and Candied Orange – $4.95

This cannoli has been glazed in chocolate syrup, adding more sweet flavor in runny, liquid form. The cannoli is the least offensive item on Italy’s menu. It’s a little small for the price, but that’s probably a good thing, considering it tasted like it was recently defrosted. Though if you really, really want a cannoli, you won’t necessarily be disappointed by this.

Peroni Pilsner (5.1% ABV) – $6.00 for 6 o.z., $10.00 for 12 o.z.

Peroni Brewery describes their beer as “a crisp and refreshing beer with a delicate balance of bitterness, citrus and spicy aromatic notes, combined with a fast and clean finish.”

*NEW* Italian White Sangria with Prosecco – $11.00

Italian White Sangria with Prosecco – $11.00

Usually, when a Sangria beverage of this price contains more juice than wine, we would complain. However, since the wine in this drink tasted particularly cheap and unpleasant, in this case it was somewhat of a relief. The drink was supposed to contain Prosecco, however this was unidentifiable from the lack of fizz in the drink.

*NEW* Italian Red Sangria with Cabernet Sauvignon – $11.00

Italian Red Sangria with Cabernet Sauvignon – $11.00

Have you ever put red wine in the microwave? That’s what this is. We thought sangria came with ice and fruit, but this was just a room temperature liquid. The flavor was fruity, so it could have been really good, but as it got hotter, it was just too warm to drink.

Frozen Italian Margarita with Limoncello and Tequila – $11.00

Frozen Italian Margarita with Limoncello and Tequila – $11.00

The margarita was quite good as it tasted almost like a melting lemon ice dessert. However, there didn’t seem to be much liquor in the drink, as we didn’t taste much besides the faint hint of tequila. Overall, this is a tasty drink, but don’t expect to get much alcohol for your money here.
