We now know which season next year we will be able to take our first ride on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Bob Chapek announced Saturday at Destination D that the ride is expected to open “in about a year,” putting the opening date sometime in fall 2019.
The first-ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse is expected to use “breakthrough technology to transform a two-dimensional cartoon into an amazing real-word experience.”
The ride will feature a new original story and new theme song as well.
Photos from earlier this month showed that the construction walls had come down at the Chinese Theater, which will house the ride.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is also expected to come to Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland, but Disney has not yet confirmed this rumor.
Two years? Really?!?
It never ceases to amaze me that it takes them so long to replace existing attractions. Why oh why haven’t they figured out how to design and assemble most of the new ride off-site so they can move it into the new space after the closure?
It looks like WDWNT’s “reveal” of the opening date for this attraction almost a year ago was a little off the mark and it is now 4 or 5 months later than originally rumoured.
Any speculation on why there was a “slip”?
Same as every other timeline slip the last few years I assume. They haven’t made a deadline in quite a while.
