Schmoozies! in the Hollywood Land area of Disney California Adventure is offering three special food items in honor of Mickey’s 90th. The Get Your Ears On – A Mickey and Minnie Celebration has a variety of fun new foods to try and all three of their offerings were a hit.
Come hungry.
Mickey Donut with Apple Filling – $8.99
Donuts and cronuts seem to be all the rage lately. Warning – this is huge. It is also heavy. Bring friends. I was worried it was going to be a sugar bomb, but it was surprisingly light, flaky and delicious. The frosting and sprinkles don’t add anything to the flavor, but it makes it very fun to photograph and you will certainly be the center of attention walking to a table with it. The Mickey buttons are plain M&M candies. The apple pie center seems to be the same apple pie filling they use on the festival foods, which isn’t bad. Two Oreo cookies round out the ear look.
Minnie Donut with Cherry Filling – $8.99
In case one cronut wasn’t enough, you can get a matching Minnie one. Disney is calling these donuts, but they are massive.
If you thought you were the center of attention carrying one giant donut, try two. This was similar to the Mickey apple pie filled cronut, but with cherry. Same light flakey pastry with Oreo ears. The Minnie bow is white chocolate and the polka dots are candy-coated chocolate. Both of these cronut/donuts were great. It really boils down to fruit filling preference. If you like apples, get Mickey. If you like cherry, get the Minnie one. If you have a hoard of people (or you’re just hungry, no judgment,) get both as the price is reasonable for the size.
These do flake apart nicely for small edible bites. Be sure to grab a knife.
Mickey Cookies ‘n’ Cream Shake – $5.99
This shake was hands-down my favorite specialty item. Two other tasters also agreed this was one of the best if not the best item we had. It is a large serving that can be easily shared and the price is reasonable.
It does take a while after ordering to get your shake as it is made by hand. The cups are cutely decorated to look like Mickey. The ratio of cookies to ice cream is perfect. It’s thick, but not weird thick like some milkshakes. This is probably in the top 5 shakes I’ve ever had. It wasn’t overly sweet and the whipped cream and sprinkles mixed in nicely.
The sprinkle and candy-coated chocolates on the plastic cup don’t add much for flavor, but they do make it special. Do yourself a favor and check out these offerings at Schmoozies!
