REVIEW: Chicken-Fried Brisket and Waffle, Sustainable Fish Tacos, & Minnie Cupcake at White Water Snacks

White Water Snacks is back and looking better than ever with a refreshed look post-refurbishment. The fan-favorite restaurant is now sporting an Arts and Crafts design with stonework that fits with the rest of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. And that’s not the only part of the restaurant that has received an update. White Water Snacks has opened with a refreshed menu and we couldn’t wait to review a few of the new items.

Chicken-Fried Brisket and Waffle – $18.00

First, we tried the Chicken-Fried Brisket and Waffle. This dish is made of BBQ Sauce, Pimento Cheese Spread, and House-made Pickles.

The house-made pickles were amazing, especially when dipped in the sauce. As far as the sauce goes, we were a bit confused. We thought the BBQ Sauce and Pimento Cheese Spread would be separate sauces, but they appeared to be one sauce mixed together. Regardless, we really enjoyed it and thought it added a spark of flavor to the Brisket, which was very bland on its own.

Not only was the Chicken-Fried Brisket bland, but it tasted more like a burger than anything else. On its own, we don’t love it. But paired with the sauce and the waffle, it was really good. The waffle was cooked perfectly, being crisp enough while still being soft and easy to cut. It did have a bit of a sweet, honey taste to it and we liked how this balanced out the BBQ Sauce and Pimento Cheese Spread.

If the brisket was prepared differently, this is a meal we would order again. It’s great for sharing with a friend or eating on your own.

Sustainable Fish Tacos – $15.00

We originally didn’t intend to order the Sustainable Fish Tacos. However, when we saw a fellow guest of the restaurant eating these, we went back to order them for ourselves. The tacos are comprised of Battered Fish with Yuzu Citrus Slaw and Miso Crema.

Even if you aren’t big on eating seafood, these fish tacos are a must! They could not have been prepared any better and the portions are a perfect size. Unlike fish tacos at most restaurants, these did not have a strong fishy taste and the batter was just the right amount. The Yuzu Citrus Slaw and Miso Crema added a tangy flavor to each bite and we couldn’t get enough. The best part about these tacos? They weren’t messy at all. Each taco stayed together, down to the last bite.

We really can’t recommend these enough. The Sustainable Fish Tacos are definitely the go-to item on the menu at White Water Snacks.

Minnie Sweetheart Cupcake – $7.00

When we saw this adorable Minnie Sweetheart Cupcake, we knew we had to give it a try. There was no description for it on display, so we were in for quite the surprise when we cut it open.

Underneath the hard chocolate shell is a large amount of whipped strawberry frosting. Combined with the chocolate shell, the frosting was delicious. Unlike some of the cupcakes offered throughout the Resort, the frosting was light and not overly sweet. The strawberry taste was very present and smelled nice, too. The cupcake was also strawberry flavored, with swirls of chocolate.

We really enjoyed indulging on this Minnie-themed dessert and everyone in our party agreed that this is one of the best cupcakes being offered right now.
