When Ballast Point Brewery and Kitchen opened at Disneyland Resort in January, the Downtown Disney District received a much-needed taste of fun. With an extensive selection of beers, many from their San Diego locations and some exclusive to Anaheim, this restaurant has proved to be a wonderful addition for adults at the Resort. And this weekend, guests can enjoy Lager Madness at Ballast Point by trying the new Bacon Wrapped Brat Hoagie and BP Lager. Available now through March 24.

Bacon Wrapped Brat Hoagie and BP Lager – $18

Lager Madness is a weekend celebration of the newest beer on the menu: The Ballast Point Lager (4.2% abv.) It’s described on the menu as an easy-drinking, low-calorie, gluten-reduced, light and refreshing lager. Indeed, it is very light with a crisp taste. This beer would satisfy even those who aren’t big craft beer drinkers. It’s only 99 calories, as advertised on the coaster that was served with the drink. So it’s a great option for guests looking to consume something less heavy.

This beer comes with the Lager Madness daily special, but you can purchase it separately too. An 8 oz. pour costs $6.50 and a 16 oz. pour costs $11.00. And for Lager Madness, the restaurant has Ballast Point Brewing Co. Lager keychains! They’re available this weekend for free while supplies last.

The daily special consists of a BP Lager braised bratwurst, crispy shallots, spicy curry ketchup, pretzel roll, sweet potato fries, and includes a pint of BG Lager. For $18.00, we thought this was an incredible deal. And after finishing the meal, we were even more impressed.

The brat itself could have been served a little warmer. And we were clearly served regular french fries, not sweet potato fries. However, those are the only small complaints we have. The brat was pretty large and flavorful, and the spicy curry ketchup added a nice kick to every bite. The spiciness wasn’t too much, so even guests who are usually wary of spicy can still enjoy this. We would have preferred a little more bacon on this hoagie, but it paired really well with the ketchup. The crispy shallots on top were by far the best addition. Despite the generous amount, we could not get enough of these fried toppings.

Everything combined with the soft pretzel roll made for a delicious hoagie. And it’s very filling, so you can easily share this meal with a friend if you don’t think you can tackle it on your own.

The french fries were another stand-out. They were cooked perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus, they were cut pretty thick and we were served a generous portion on the side. As far as french fries available at the Disneyland Resort, these have to be the best we’ve tried.

Overall, this Lager Madness special at Ballast Point was incredible and worth every bite and sip. The Bacon Wrapped Brat Hoagie was tasty and the BP Lager paired so perfectly with the dish. The light and refreshing taste of the beer balanced out the spicy and savory tastes of the bratwurst.
