It’s Official! MCU Characters Coming To Disney’s Streaming Service

collage4334

Recently we reported the latest information regarding Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+, and it was confirmed that the service will indeed include shows featuring characters from the MCU movies in their own limited series. They will include such favorites as, Loki, Falcon And Winter Soldier, Wanda and Vision and Hawkeye. What is even more impressive is that Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Elisabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and Jeremy Renner will all be reprising the roles they originated on the big screen.

Marvel Studios Chief, Kevin Feige, talks about the upcoming series based on the MCU character below.

From Variety:

“These episodes will intersect with the movies in a very big way,” explains Feige. “It’s a totally new form of storytelling that we get to play with and explore.” To that end, Feige gave fans a few clues about what to expect. “It’s the first long-form narrative that Marvel Studios has done — they’ll be six episodes, eight episodes, 10 episodes with the actors from the films playing their characters,” he said. “They’ll be changing, evolving, growing in those event series and then those changes will be reflected in their next film appearances.”
One thing that impressed Feige was that Hiddleston, Renner, and others were so amenable to reprising their roles away from the big screen.
“I think it’s a testament to the quality of streaming and to the way things are changing that many of our actors are totally into it and are totally excited by it,” said Feige. “I was concerned about it. I had a whole song and dance ready to sell them about why we were so excited about it and why this was a best case scenario. But, within one second they were like, ‘You guys are doing it, we’re in.’”

The Future Of “Deadpool” (And The X-Men and Wolverine) Under Disney And Marvel Studios

wsswswqqws

With Marvel recently acquiring all of the movie rights to Marvel properties owned by Fox, such as The X-Men, Wolverine and Deadpool, the question remained, would Deadpool become watered down to fit the family friendly MCU movies? Marvel Studios Chief, Kevin Feige, explained that he does not foresee the Deadpool movies changing since they have proven to be successful with movie goers.

From Variety:

The Fox deal will also enable Marvel to experiment with the kinds of comic book movies that it makes. Feige said it “remains to be seen” if the studio will start making R-rated adventures such as “Logan,” but he echoed Walt Disney Chairman Bob Iger’s earlier promise to keep making the adult-oriented “Deadpool” films. Those will presumably still be profanity-laden, blood-splattered and very, very R-rated.
“When we were purchased, Bob said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’” said Feige. “There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?”

That is definitely good news for Deadpool fans, but it is still unclear as to what will happen with The X-Men and Wolverine franchises. I am including The X-Men franchise because as of this writing, X-Men: Dark Phoenix does still not have an official MPAA rating.

With a release date of June 7th for Dark Phoenix, it is very possible that it will receive an R rating. 2017’s Logan did receive a rating of R and Feige does say that it remains to be seen as to whether they will continue with the ultraviolet nature of Wolverine. I have a feeling that the X-Men and The Wolverine franchises will be toned down a bit in order for them to play a significant role in the MCU.
