With just a few days left in April, we were wondering when Mickey’s PhilharMagic would be opening at Disney California Adventure. Well, wonder no more as Mickey and his enchanted, 3D orchestra will take the stage starting tomorrow, Friday, April 26, 2019.
The attraction is located inside the Sunset Showcase in Hollywood Land, former home to MuppetVision 3-D, the Frozen Sing-Along, and various movie previews. If you’re expecting the Mickey’s PhilharMagic from Walt Disney World, don’t. This will be the version presented on a narrower screen that just debuted at Disneyland Paris recently. The film is the same, but you’ll be missing a lot of the movie you would see on the larger format versions.
Signage and such outside went up overnight. A tremendous amount of time nor effort has been spent on this project. Nonetheless, it’s probably a good addition in any form during the summer of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
In place of a beautiful mural, here’s a very haphazard logo.
Posters that appear in the lobby of the other version of the attraction can be found hanging above the Award Weiners seating area.
Mickey’s Philharmagic first opened at the Magic Kingdom in 2003, opened with Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005, and was then added to Tokyo Disneyland in 2011. The latest version of the show debuted just last year at Disneyland Paris. The Shanghai Disney Resort is now the only Disney Resort in the world to not feature the 3-D attraction.
Are you excited to see Mickey’s PhilharMagic at Disney California Adventure?
It’s better than nothing. However I would have liked to see an enhanced attraction. There is a rumor that Disney is thinking about changing up the attraction in Orlando with randomization. This would be where various scenes of Donald visiting other Disney worlds would be swapped out randomly making each viewing experience sort of unique. I love this idea. It adds a repeat viewing angle that this attraction is lacking. Once you have viewed it once you are done. Also it would be possible to update the show with a new scene from time to time.
