REVIEW: “It’s a Girl!” Baby Gorilla Celebration Cupcake at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

What’s a celebration at Disney without a cupcake? With the recent birth of a new baby gorilla at Gorilla Falls, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has released a chocolate cupcake for the occasion. It’s available for $5.99 at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Africa:

Filled with gender-revealing crispy chocolate pearls (if you somehow missed the news via the cupcake’s name and needed it revealed once again), this cake is topped with a mound of sugar. You have buttercream frosting, a fondant leaf, more chocolate pearls in pink and blue, and, to finish it all off, an edible picture of the mother and baby.

Though one might think they’d had around 9 months to plan this cupcake, clearly nobody informed the bakery. By the photos, you can see how slapdash the overall image is.

While one can commend the creativity of the gender reveal pearls inside the cupcake, the cupcake we reviewed barely had any pearls inside.

Also, there’s far too much icing for one little cupcake and, as it was kept refrigerated beforehand, it was a solid chunk to cut through.

While this cupcake is certainly celebrating a wonderful occasion, save your $5.99 and donate it to the Disney Conservation Fund instead… but by all means, go and visit the cute baby gorilla.
