“The Lion King” Rules The Box Office For A Second Weekend; “Aladdin” Crosses The $1 Billion Mark

“The Lion King” was #1 at the box office for a second weekend in a row and beat out Quentin Tarantino’s latest film debut, “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”. “The Lion King” brought in $75.5 million at the domestic box office and $143 million internationally, bringing its worldwide box office total to $963 million.

Disney is definitely having a great year with three of its films accumulating over $1 billion at the box office. “Aladdin” joins “Avengers: Endgame” and “Captain Marvel” to be three of the highest-grossing movies of the year so far. “The Lion King” and “Toy Story 4” are also very close to reaching $1 billion very soon.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” came in third place this weekend and has accumulated over $1.037 billion worldwide. This is the first Spider-Man film to make over $1 billion and the 9th Marvel film to make over $1 billion at the box office. And although “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is a Sony film, this is potentially good news for the Disney and Marvel Studios. Rumors have persisted that Sony’s deal with Spider-Man remaining in the MCU were contingent with the performance of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” at the box office and the film making over $1 billion for Sony.

“Toy Story 4” came in 4th place this weekend and brought in $9.87 million at the domestic box office, with an additional $19.4 million internationally, making its worldwide box office total $917.9 million. “Toy Story 4” is the 4th highest grossing Pixar film of all time behind “Incredibles 2”, which made $1.243 billion, “Toy Story 3”, which made $1.067 billion and “Finding Dory”, which made $1.029 billion.

“Aladdin” came in 7th place and brought in $2.9 million at the domestic box office, with an additional $7.2 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $1.009 billion.

“Avengers: Endgame” came in 12th place and brought in $824 thousand domestically this weekend. “Avengers: Endgame” has now grossed over $2.793 billion at the worldwide box office and is the reigning all-time champ at the box office. And this week, “Avengers: Endgame” will be available for purchase digitally this Tuesday, July 30th.
