As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Haunted Mansion, the happy haunts are receiving our sympathetic vibrations. And they’ve materialized two delicious food offerings at Cafe Orleans in Disneyland: Sarah ‘Sally’ Slater’s (i.e. Tightrope Girl) Seafood Fries and Swinging Wake Cake.
Sarah ‘Sally’ Slater’s Seafood Fries – $11.00
Sweet potato waffle fries are topped with crawfish étouffée, chorizo, tomatoes, sweet corn, and green onion. Why seafood? Well, as we all know, Sally must’ve lost her balance on the tightrope and ended up in the swamp.
The sweet potato fries are great and go fantastically with the sauce. And heed this warning: the crawfish is very fishy. We still loved it, but it might be too much if you’re not a fan of seafood. However, the chunks of sausage give a nice break from the seafood, so it all balances out. Unfortunately, the corn didn’t really add anything special to this dish.
Swinging Wake Cake – $10.00
What’s a celebration without cake? This layered chocolate and vanilla sponge cake has a caramel-banana filling with buttercream frosting.
Unfortunately, the cake doesn’t hold together very well and it’s really small for the price. You need to have a taste for banana, otherwise, you’re not going to enjoy this cake. There’s a very pronounced banana flavor due to the cream center. Unfortunately, this dessert is one of the more forgettable ones we’ve tried.
If you’d like to try these limited-time offerings, we do suggest making final arrangements now by booking a reservation at Cafe Orleans.
