How Disney Vacations Have Been Affected By The Thomas Cook Collapse, and What Guests Can Do to Save Their Travel Plans

If you have been reading the news this week, you may have heard the horrible news that the British international travel company Thomas Cook Group has ceased all operations. From this devastating loss, all package holidays and flights booked through the company have been canceled.

Being a global travel company, Thomas Cook also booked package holidays to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris. Here is a summary of what the Disney are saying in the midst of the upheaval, and how your holidays are affected.

Walt Disney World Holidays

Guests who booked Walt Disney World flight-inclusive packages direct through Disney may likely have been due to fly with Thomas Cook airlines. In this instance, The Walt Disney Travel Company have advised that they are working with their travel partners to re-assign flights for their guests, and will be prioritizing flights in order of departure date. Guests already in-resort due to fly home with Thomas Cook flights booked through Disney are being encouraged to contact the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) direct helpline on +44 1753 330 330 with their details, in order to be placed on new flights or scheduled flights with other airlines such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

It has been confirmed that Disney will waiver any amendment fees which would have occurred if a guest’s flights have been canceled. Similarly, cancellations with no charge and a full refund will occur if changing the vacation is not an option. To do this, guests should email  disneytraveluk@disneyonline.com with the subject ‘Thomas Cook Cancellation’, but be wary of delayed response times.

However, many guests may have booked Walt Disney World package holidays direct through Thomas Cook. Unfortunately, since Thomas Cook was acting as the agent in this sale, Disney is not obliged to assist guests or provide alternative arrangements for them. Travelers are being advised to check www.thomascook.caa.co.uk or the ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) website www.abta.com for more information. For flight-only bookings made through Thomas Cook, the ABTA website can also provide advice on passenger protection and rights under these circumstances.

Walt Disney World will not be offering any discount on packages being booked to make up for any loss due to Thomas Cook cancellations, and guests will be required to book their trip subject to availability, and pay the prevailing rate. For tickets booked directly through The Walt Disney Travel Company, full refunds can be issued (regardless of who the rest of the package was booked with), providing they have not been used. Guests should email disneytraveluk@disneyonline.com for more details.

Disneyland Paris Holidays

Similarly to Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris is unable to replicate Thomas Cook bookings to the resort. Any bookings made in place of a lost Thomas Cook booking must be made subject to availability and will be priced at the prevailing rate. For guests who have booked Disneyland Paris packages through other agencies independent to Thomas Cook, Disney is advising you check with your agent directly.
