“Frozen 2” had a great weekend at the box office coming in at #1 and beating out new comers such as “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood” and “21 Bridges”. “Frozen 2” made $127 million domestically and $223 million internationally, bringing its worldwide box office total to $350 million.
“Frozen 2” broke the record for the biggest worldwide opening weekend for an animated film with $350 million. “Frozen 2” also had the third biggest opening weekend of all time in North America for an animated film with $127 million. “Incredibles 2” holds the record with an opening of $183 million, followed by “Finding Dory” with $135 million. “Frozen 2” also broke a record in China for the biggest opening for an animated film with $55 million.
The original debut of “Frozen” in 2013 generated $93 million during the five day Thanksgiving weekend.
Coming in at second place at the box office was Fox’s “Ford Vs Ferrari” which made $16 million this weekend and brought its North American total to an estimated $43 million.
Expect “Frozen 2” to hold onto the #1 spot for several weeks as there is very little significant competition coming until “Jumanji: The Next Level” opens on December 13th. Then, the following weekend is the big one, “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” opens on December 20th.
