Work is starting to pick up at the Magic Kingdom parking lot expansion. This week, we noticed some equipment had been removed. But today it looks as if more work has started.
Where a large crane and some equipment once stood is now just dirt piles.
The piles, however, have had some dirt added to them recently.
From the ground, we can see stacks of cones also being added in anticipation of diverting traffic.
Over in the parking lot itself, a large pile has appeared with barriers and cones to keep guests away.
You can see the barriers extend quite far forward from the main road, with black tarps covering a lot of ground work.
We can also see large construction equipment being moved in to work on the area as a whole.
The view from the ground shows how large the dirt pile and equipment on-site actually are.
Some of the pieces in place are quite large.
Orange construction fencing is still plentiful around the old Walt Disney World Speedway site.
We also spotted some work being done on the outer tree lawn of the parking lot. This may mirror the work that has been done on the opposite side of the parking lot.
The trees on the far side continue to be dug around but are protected from destruction.
Stay tuned to WDWNT for the latest updates on the parking lot expansion at the Magic Kingdom.
From the plans that I’ve seen, the recently de-forested area in the middle of the current parking lot, will be the site of the added parking spaces. The area to the south of the entire lot (where the WDW Speedway was once located), will be re-forested, as a substitute to the area that has been lost to pavement. (Of course, Disney could have changed these plans a dozen times, since the parking plans were released).
