REVIEW: It’s Avocado Time at the 2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

It’s time for some avocados and guac at the Avocado Time Marketplace for the 2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. This year the menu brings a new totilla-crusted fried guacamole, along with the Impossible slider the booth has had over the past couple of years.

Petite Impossible™ Burger with Guac and Pepper Jack (Vegetarian) – $8.00

While rather tasty, this slider is rather small for the price. It’s also not that inventive – I’ve had guac on a burger many times. There are many other great dishes at the festival we’d recommend, but if you just have to eat a burger, you could do worse we suppose.

This slider is still just as tasty as last year, but too small for the price. The concept of guac on a burger is not very new or inventive, so we were bummed to see this on the menu yet again. But if you find yourself really craving a burger during the Festival, this one still gets the job done.

*NEW* Tortilla-crusted Fried Guacamole with Carne Asada – $8.25

We were excited to try this dish, because we’re immediately interested in anything with guacamole in the name! Portions of guacamole are rolled in a tortilla-based breading and then fried to a golden crisp perfection. The fried guacamole slices are paired with carne asada and served with pico de gallo and an avocado crema on top.

Our carne asada was wonderfully seasoned and well cooked, but it was served to us cold, which was unfortunate. We wish we would have been given equal portions of the fried guacamole and carne asada (we received more of the beef), because they paired together so well.

The pico de gallo adds a fresh element to the dish and the avocado crema has a sweet finish that really enhances all of the flavors in the dish. If we could guarantee this dish would be served warm, we would definitely come back for another serving!

*NEW* Mezcal Cocktail (Alcoholic) – $14.00

This cocktail is a tropical mix of pineapple juice, orange juice, agave nectar, and fresh lime blended with a peppercorn-infused syrup and mezcal. It’s served with a large pineapple slice garnish. Due to all of the fruit juices, this drink has a sweet syrupy consistency, but we didn’t mind it.

The peppercorn-infused syrup pairs nicely with the drink’s other ingredients, heightening all of the fruity flavors by adding a subtle hint of spice. Don’t let the all of the fruity ingredients deceive you… you still get the strong taste of mezcal in every sip. This cocktail gets our stamp of approval.

Did you think it was time for avocados or is it more of an avocad-no, for you?
