Fans of the delicious Tempura Donburi served at the Japan marketplace booth for the Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival 2020 may be heartbroken to hear that the dish has been replaced with last year’s Teriyaki Chicken Bun for the time being.
While walking through the World Showcase today, we noticed the change on the menu outside:
The Tempura Donburi we reviewed earlier last month for the start of this year’s Food & Wine Festival is no longer on the menu.
The dish featured two pieces of Tempura Shrimp and Kakiage (Vegetable Tempura) with Tentsuyu dipping sauce served over sushi rice for $8.00. Now, it has been replaced with the Teriyaki Chicken Bun from festivals past, at a $0.25 price increase from last year’s price of $5.75. You can read our review from the 2019 Food & Wine Festival below:
Teriyaki Chicken Bun: Steamed Bun filled with Chicken, Vegetables and a Sweet Teriyaki Sauce – $6.00
Inside of this delicately-prepared bao bun is a good amount of shredded chicken tossed in a sweet teriyaki sauce. The menu description says there’re vegetables in there, but there’s far more chicken than vegetables—and that’s a good thing! There’s a lot of value here in the relatively large portion for the price, especially in EPCOT Festival terms. It’s a tasty and safe bet for this year’s festival.
So, are you excited to see the return of the Teriyaki Chicken Bun to the Japan booth at EPCOT, or are you sad to lose the Tempura Donburi? At $8, the latter made a great, filling meal, even though eating a piping hot bowl of rice in the middle of a sweltering summer day often felt somewhat conflicting. We’re unsure if this is just a temporary swap due to supply issues or a permanent change to the menu here, but we’ll make sure to keep an eye on the Japan booth and let you know of any further updates!
